Our Process

Step 1

We Come to you to pick up the rug or the rug can be dropped offf at our main location at 1203 King Street Alexandria Virginia.

Step 2

Rug goes through a thorough diagnosis front and back where our professionals breakdown the type of dye and knotting used. This step is very important because Persian rugs come from thousands of tribes and each tribe has their unique chemical or vegetable dyes that must be protected throughout the cleaning process.

Step 3

The next step involves scanning for any unique stain areas front and back such as wine or urine, areas that need repair are also marked and addressed to the customer for repair.

Step 4

The dusting process is one of the most important process, after getting vacuumed our state of the are rug dusting machine gently breaks down dust particles deeply imbedded into the rug, A rug the size of 8 x 10 can hold up to 50 to 70 pounds of dust so it is important to get all that out for the well being of the rug and the customer.

Step 5

Hand Wash – What sets us apart with our competition is this next step, we actually wash with HANDS, handwashing is an essential part of the cleaning process, washing with machines involves to much friction and can potentially damage the foundation of the rug, Persian rugs are hand made and therefore we recommend it being washed by our hand washing specialists. The shampoo used to wash the rug also must be special because the PH must not alter with the chemistry of the rug. Our oriental rug shampoo is a neutral pH shampoo which is specially formulated to clean wool rugs.

Step 6

Dry Station – Final step involves the drying process, during this step the rug gets placed on our rug rack station where we have machines set in place that control the humidity in that room.

Step 7

Once the drying is complete the rug is rolled and tied and ready to be delivered to our customer!

Here at Omar’s Rug Cleaning & Repair our owners and staff have been in the Persian rug industry for over 35 years. Joseph and his family from Persian descent have been born and raised in the industry and recognize what it takes to care for Persian rugs. It takes years of experience, from understanding the origins of the rug to the type of dyes used and knotting style to know how to approach Persian arts. Oftentimes rugs are passed down generation to generation so we recognize the emotional attachment our clients have with those rugs, which is why our clients prefer us over others, we use traditional cleaning and repair methods that protects the longevity of the rug.
